Abilene
Hospitality Industry

Welcome to LodgingGuide's hospitality industry listings for the Abilene, Texas area.

Abilene is the closest metropolitan area to the geographic center of Texas, near the bottom of the panhandle. Abilene’s early economy was based on the trading of buffalo skeletons, left behind by early pioneers who had been interested only in trading their hides, and subsequently valued by sugar and fertilizer refineries. As the supply of buffalo skeletons diminished, the military established regional bases which now comprise the main economy of the area, the most recent of which is Dyess Air Force Base where B-1 bomber crews now are trained. Abilene also is home to many world-famous horse competitions, and offers visitors the best of frontier living, high-tech urban amenities, quality hotels and other lodging options and a full spectrum of cultural events. For outdoors enthusiasts, the Abilene State Park in the low hills of the Callaghan Divide offers hundreds of acres of forests, streams, untouched prairie and plenty of guided tours.
